Procedures and Guidelines for the Photo Salon Committee
- After the location and dates of the next North Central Branch meeting have been set, determine dates for entry, judging, etc. as per Photographic Society of America (PSA) guidelines.
- Determine the location where the entered slides and digital images will be accepted. Prepare the entry form for the salon.
- Apply for recognition of the Insect Photo Salon through PSA at least 6 months prior to entry date of next salon. Apply on-line at www.psaexhibitionstandards.com. Request PSA medals needed.
- Send copies of entry form via email to last years salon entrants. Send a copy to NCB secretary for distribution to NCB members and for posting on NCB website.
- Contact Program Chair to ensure that time and space have been allocated for two salon presentations as required by the Photographic Society of America.
- Contact local arrangements Chair with the requirements for the presentation of the Insect Photo Salon. The salon is presented twice during the meeting usually on the second and third nights. The top prize winning images are often shown during the meeting as an enticement to get people to attend the salon. Some specific requirements are:
- Theater style seating for 50-100 people and as large a screen as possible.
- A carousel slide projector and a digital projector with remote controls at the podium. The projectors need as high of a brightness as possible.
- A lighted podium and a pointer.
- Microphone
- Contact three judges for the salon. Two judges should be professional photographers and one judge shall be an entomologist. Set up a location for the judging to take place within the time as specified in PSA guidelines.
- After the judging a script is written, a catalog is written and printed, the PSA report cards filled out and mailed and the total reject slides packaged and returned to the photographers. The accepted images are assembled into the show.
- Title slides should be prepared for salon. These shall include a list of judges, committee members, award winners, etc.
- Prepare a report for the North Central Branch Executive Committee meeting.
- Present the salon at the NCB meetings.
- Sort, package and return slides, along with a salon catalog to the photographers following the NCB-ESA meetings. Digital images are not returned.
- Email a copy of the catalog to all digital entrants, committee members and officers of NCB. Mail a printed catalog to the PSA Exhibitions Standards Director, the Director of Who’s Who, the Director of Galaxy Awards and 3 copies to the Director of Star Rating.
- Prepare a financial statement. Copies sent to ESA Secretary-Treasurer and President for information.
- Prepare and submit a report to the PSA Nature Division Chair.
- Send list of Chair’s and Committee’s expenses to Secretary- Treasurer of NCB.
